Applied Impact Project

The Applied Impact Project unfolds in three parts—project topic selection, development, and implementation. Topic selection takes place in Phase A, development in Phase B, and implementation in Phase C. At each phase, candidates receive guidance and support from their mentor.

What is the Applied Impact Project? The Applied Impact Project is a learning experience that encourages professionals to put their knowledge into practice, demonstrating the real-world application of the skills and strategies gained. By completing the Applied Impact Project, candidates not only deepen their own professional growth but also create meaningful, practical solutions that positively affect the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The project fosters innovation, drives best practices, and strengthens the broader I/DD community by transforming learning into measurable change.

Candidates will need to identify the project purpose/objective, the intended audience and the way this information will be shared.  Expected outcomes and feedback opportunities will need to be addressed in the process as well. Candidates will work with their mentor throughout the identification, development, and implementation of the project.

Candidates are encouraged to choose a topic in which they are passionate with an expectation that all work submitted is original and created solely by the candidate. The Applied Impact Project completion times will vary depending on the subject matter.  It is expected that candidates will devote the appropriate amount of time to fully explore their selected topic, develop, and implement the project. Project scope will be discussed between the candidate and mentor at the beginning of the project process.
